LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women’s tennis head coach Todd Petty and sophomore sensation Samantha Adams were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.

Petty, who is in his fourth year at the helm of the program, is the first Texas Tech women’s coach to be named ITA Texas Region Coach of the Year. Earlier this month, he was honored with his second consecutive Big 12 Coach of the Year honor. He is one of only three coaches in the history of the league to win coach of the year in consecutive seasons.

Petty led the Lady Raiders to one of the most magical seasons in school history. Texas Tech finished the season 19-6 (8-1 Big 12) and won the Big 12 Conference regular season title. The Lady Raiders finished the season ranked No. 21 and reached as high as No. 17 this season. Texas Tech’s 19 wins are the most in 25 years and he led the Lady Raiders to its first-ever NCAA Championships appearance.

Adams, a sophomore from New Braunfels, was named the 2013 ITA Texas Region Player to Watch. Last season, Adams was honored by the ITA as the Texas Region Rookie of the Year. She earned first team All-Big 12 singles honors and teamed with Kenna Kilgo for first team All-Big 12 doubles. She is currently ranked No. 117 in singles with a 21-15 record. Adams and Kilgo are ranked No. 19 nationally in doubles after posting a 25-8 record this season and were named Big 12 position champions at No. 1 doubles.

In two short seasons, Adams has made an indelible impact on Texas Tech. She is 46-27 in singles and 46-20 in doubles. Adams in on pace to become one of the winningest players in program history. Next week, she will team with Kilgo as one of the Top 32 doubles tandems in the nation at the 2012 NCAA Women’s Individual Doubles Championships.
