LUBBOCK, Texas – Samantha Czarniak Rego, a native of São Paulo, Brazil, has signed a national letter of intent to play tennis for No. 17 Texas Tech, announced Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty.
“We are extremely excited to add Samantha to lineup,” said Petty. “I think she has all of the intangibles we are looking for in a player, but also I fell like she fits well within the dynamic of our program. Samantha is someone we think can contribute right away and we look forward to her joining the Lady Raider program.”
Czarniak Rego was ranked No. 215 in the world as a junior, and has been ranked as high as 1,011 in singles and 1,137 in doubles on the WTA since turning 18 last August.
She won the 2010 ITF Quito doubles title with Laura Ucros in Quito, Ecuador, and the 2011 ITF Bahia Juniors Cup doubles title in Salvador, Brazil with Ingrid Gamarra Martins. In singles, she lost in the finals of the Copa Santa Catarina in Itajaí, Brazil and reached the semifinals of three other ITF events.
Czarniak Rego joins a recruiting class that includes Lynn Kiro of South Africa and Beatriz Machado Santos of Portugal.
