Bracket Set For Adams, Kilgo At NCAA Championships
 

Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo begin play Thursday at the NCAA Doubles Championships.

URBANA, Ill. – The bracket was released Tuesday for the 2013 NCAA Doubles Championships and the Texas Tech team of>Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo will face Vanderbilt’s No. 12 tandem of Courtney Colton and Lauren Mira.

Adams and Kilgo, who are ranked No. 16, will begin play on Thursday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Illinois.

The Texas Tech tandem is making its second straight appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championships. Last season, the then No. 19 duo of Adams and Kilgo dropped a heartbreaking three-set match to No. 9 Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez of UCLA, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

This season, Adams and Kilgo are 22-9, including 4-5 against ranked opponents. The duo has twice been named All-Big 12 and is 47-17 over the last two seasons.

Texas Tech’s opponent of Colton and Mira are 16-13 on the season and 7-4 against ranked opponents. Colton and Mira are currently ranked No. 12 in the most recent ITA doubles rankings. Last season Mira and former Commodore Jackie Wu advanced to the round of 16.

If Adams and Kilgo get past the first round, they will meet up with the winner of Georgia’s Kate Fuller and Silvia Garcia or Rice’s Natalie Beazant and Dominique Harmath.

Fuller and Garcia are the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed and ranked No. 1 nationally. They are 24-3 overall and 11-2 against nationally ranked teams.

Beazant and Harmath are ranked 23rd nationally and making their second straight appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championships. The Rice duo is 26-9 on the season and 6-5 against ranked teams. Beazant and Harmath defeated Adams and Kilgo, 8-6, in January and are 3-1 all-time against Texas Tech’s top doubles team.
