June 7, 2012
It has been an amazing season for the Texas Tech tandem, who became the first doubles team from the school to earn an NCAA Doubles Championship invitation since 1988. The duo ended the season 25-8 and jumped four spots from No. 19 in the national rankings. They also started the spring No. 45 and climbed 30 spots as the season progressed. Adams and Kilgo also ranked second in the region in the June rankings.
The No. 2 regional ranking and the No. 15 national ranking are the highest Lady Raider final ranking in doubles in program history. The highest previous finish came in 2003, when Beverly Dawson and Irina Tereschenko finished 38th nationally in doubles.
Adams also jumped from No. 117 to No. 112 nationally in ITA singles rankings. She ranks 12th in the Texas Region, while teammate Rashmi Teltumbde ranks No. 17 in the region. In all this season, Adams, Teltumbde and Elizabeth Ullathorne each spent time in the ITA Women’s Top 125 Singles Rankings.
Adams’ No. 112 national ranking is the highest year-end finish fir a Lady Raiders since Tereschenko closed out the 2004 season ranked No. 106. The only other Lady Raider to be ranked in the ITA final Top 125 was Ullathorne in 2011, who earned a No. 117 national ranking.
Since Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty took over in 2009, he has had two singles players ranked nationally and five ranked regionally, while two doubles teams have earned national rankings as well. Prior to his arrival, three singles players have been nationally ranked (1998, 2001 and 2004) and three doubles teams have been ranked (2002, 2003 and 2008).
