LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head women's tennis coach, Todd Petty, has announced the hiring of Todd Chapman as the assistant women's tennis coach.

"I'm very pleased to welcome Todd Chapman as the newest member of the Texas Tech family. He brings a wealth of successful playing and coaching experience to our tennis program. Simply put, Todd is a winner. He has an enormous number of recruiting contacts, and his coaching style is absolutely ideal to help us build a successful program at Texas Tech," Todd Petty declared.

Chapman led Wichita Falls High School to the 4-A State Quarterfinals in Team Tennis in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Eighteen of his WFHS players competed in the individual state tournament.

He previously coached college tennis at UT-Pan American and at the University of Science & Arts in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

He was the 2003 Southland Conference Coach of the Year while at UT- Pan American. He led UTPA to their first national ranking in 18 years. Their second place finish in the Southland Conference in 2003 was the highest in the program's history. Chapman`s UTPA teams also recorded the school's first back-to-back winning seasons in 18 years.

His University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma teams earned successive NAIA National Tournament appearances and were nationally ranked as high as # 13 (women) and # 17 (men).

A 1994 Ennis High School graduate, Todd began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, Cameron University, where he was twice named Lone Star Conference Scholar Athlete.

He was the assistant coach for both the Cameron women's team, which was ranked 19th among National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II teams, and the men's team, which was ranked #23 in Division II.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education in 1994, Todd completed his Master of Education degree with an emphasis in Health and Physical Education in 1999 from Cameron University.

Todd and his wife, Amy, have five daughters: Lauren, Madison, Katelyn, Avary, and Karsen.
