Petty To Lead Texas At Junior Fed Cup|
July 9, 2014
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's tennis head coach Todd Petty has been named the captain of Team Texas for the USTA Girls 18s National Team Championships slated for July 26-29 in Claremont, Calif.
"What an honor," said Petty. "I am really proud to represent Texas in one of the nation's premier events. I look forward to the challenge and excited to work with the top juniors in Texas."
This is the first time Petty has served as a head coach in the junior event. Team Texas is one of 17 sections competing in the event. Team Texas advanced to the semifinals last season after entering the field as the No. 4 seed. Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano skippered the squad last season.
The event, also known as the Junior Fed Cup, will feature the collegiate scoring format. The Junior Fed Cup will be played at the Claremont Club with live scoring provided by Clairemont-Mudd-Scripps (link).
The state's top seven players will play against teams from 16 other sections across the country in a Compass Draw Team tournament, with six singles and three doubles matches determining the winning team in each round. Different players may be used in singles and doubles. The results of all matches will be included in the data for the Girls' 18 National ranking.
