LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech rising senior Nikki Sanders continued her impressive play from this past spring Monday as she claimed the individual title of the ITA Summer Circuit Event hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

Sanders, who posted a 25-5 individual record during the 2012-13 campaign, topped Western Kentucky, 6-0, 6-0, and Cornell's Marika Cusick, 7-5, 6-3, to advance to the quarterfinal round where she bested Sandy Niehaus of Ohio State, 2-6, 6-2, 10-5.

The Ontario, Calif. native proceeded to defeat two top high school prospects in the semifinal and championship rounds to advance to the USTA/ITA National Summer Championships.

"This was a great tournament for Nikki and we couldn't be prouder of her," Tech head coach Todd Petty said. "She played great all three days and was able to beat several of the top amateur players in the country."

Sanders will open the USTA/ITA National Summer National Championships on Aug. 10. The four-day event will be hosted by the University of Indiana in Bloomington, Ind.
