Lady Raider Doubles Dominate in ITA Summer Circuit|

LUBBOCK, Texas - Wrapping up the third tournament of the ITA Summer Circuit yesterday at UT-Arlington, the Texas Tech women's tennis team had players compete in both the singles and doubles competition. Tech's newly formed duo of senior Janet Durham and incoming freshman Kelsey Garland won their third consecutive doubles championship, defeating SMU's Natalia Bubien and Claire Rietsch for the second time.
Durham and Garland first paired in Abilene,Texas, in the opening tournament of the Summer Circuit, where they advanced to the finals edging Abilene Christian's Meagan Brown and Aina Rafolomanantsiatosika 8-6. At the second tournament of the circuit in Plano, Texas, they went on to defeat SMU's Bubien and Rietsch 8-3 in the finals. The pair now sit 13-0 in doubles competition, and will receive and automatic draw to the ITA National Summer Championships in Bloomington, Ind., starting August 11.
In singles competition, Garland received the No. 1 seed in the tournament among 128 players. She unfortunately fell short of a third round win, losing 6-1, 6-4 to Georgiana Smyser. Durham received the sixth seed and advanced to the semifinals before losing to Louisiana State's Tiffany Tucker, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Kyla Coleman also competed in singles action but suffered a loss early in the main draw. She advanced, however, to the fourth round of the consolation bracket before losing 6-2, 7-6, to Saint Louis University's Tara Grant.
There is one tournament remaining in the circuit, which will be hosted by Texas A&M on July 28-30 before the ITA Summer Championships. For more information and complete results, visit www.itatennis.com.
