LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's tennis signee Kenna Kilgo (Waco Midway) added her third state championship to her trophy case as she won the Texas 4A singles state championship this morning.
Kilgo was dominant in her run to win her first singles state championship. She won her quarterfinals match with a 6-1, 6-0 decision followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win in the semifinals. In the finals, Kilgo continued winning in straight sets with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
"It has been really exciting," Kilgo said about winning state. "Last year was awesome because I won with my brother and it was an emotional attachment and this year is was just me. It has been a personal goal all season and one I wanted to achieve. I'm really excited to have won."
Kilgo and her brother Kolby won the 2009 and 2010 mixed double state championships. She will start her career for Tech in the fall.
"I am so excited and I can't wait," Kilgo said about coming to Tech. "Not many people say this, but I can't wait the summer to end. I want to come and have fun with girls. Coming to Tech is really a dream come true for me."
