LUBBOCK, Texas - Putting the cap on the fourth annual Scarborough Specialties Open, the Texas Tech women's tennis team improved as they led in both doubles and singles play. Seven teams competed in three doubles and six singles draws, with the Lady Raiders walking away with seven total single and double wins.

In doubles the duo of senior Janet Durham and freshman Kelsey Garland swept the black bracket, defeating Michigan State's Bader and Murphy 8-1 in the finals. This is the second tournament win for the duo, as they improve their record to 7-0 in tournament play.

In the red doubles bracket, Kerryn Potgieter and Simone Templeton advanced to the finals defeating Texas State's Chafitz and Giraldo 8-5. In the final doubles draw, freshman Gozde Unkaya teamed with MSU's Wilson to clinch the grey bracket title over teammates Ingrid Ballus and Laura Ring, 8-5.

After struggling in singles action at the Mean Green Invite last weekend, Tech made an impressive stand as the Lady Raiders won five of the six singles draws. In the black draw Templeton continued to lead her team defeating Solomon from North Central Texas College 7-5, 7-5, improving to 6-1 in tournament play.

In the finals of four singles matches, two Lady Raiders were set to face-off. In what proved to be a long, grueling match-up, Garland topped doubles partner Durham in the red bracket, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0. In the grey draw, newcomer Leah Roberts edged sophomore teammate Potgieter 7-6, 6-3. Sophomores Maria Jose Andres and Kyla Coleman went toe-to-toe in the white bracket, with Andres coming ahead 6-3, 6-2. Finally in the blue singles draw, Unkaya took Ballus to three sets, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Next up the women's team will send three to the Wilson/ITA All-American Invitational in Pacific Palisades, Calif., beginning Sept. 29. For complete results of the 2007 Scarborough Specialties Open, visit www.texastech.com.
