Texas Tech Volleyball Players Report to Campus for Preseason Drills
Volleyball Coach Jeff Nelson Welcomes Eight Newcomers to a Youthful Squad
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team reports to campus Wednesday for fall practice, Red Raider volleyball coach Jeff Nelson announced Tuesday. Practice will begin Friday at 8:30 a.m. and run to 12:00 noon at the Women's Gym on the Texas Tech University campus. The team will also practice in the afternoon on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Media members are invited to all practices. Call the sports information office for practice times after Friday.
Nelson welcomes 19 student-athletes, including eight newcomers to his team which finished 25-9 overall, earned its second straight NCAA tournament appearance, reached 20 victories faster than any other Big XII Conference team and finished sixth in the Big XII Conference at 12-8.
"I'm excited to begin practice," Tech head coach Jeff Nelson said. "The kids worked real hard in the spring and I think they've really put their time in this summer and are in great shape. They can come in and we'll be ready to go. We can spend our time fine-tuning the team- doing a little bit of skill review- but getting on the ball and working the team right away."
Under Nelson's leadership, Texas Tech has enjoyed huge success over the past two years. His overall record over those two seasons is 47-22 and he has guided the Raiders to two consecutive 20-win seasons and two NCAA Tournament berths.
The Raiders will be preparing for their first competition- the Sheraton Shootout on August 29-30 at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. Texas Tech will host four visiting teams including Texas-San Antonio, Portland, Southern Methodist and Ohio.
