Red Raiders off to State of Kansas

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team will travel to Kansas and Kansas State these weekend, continuing its Big 12 Conference schedule. Tech will be in Lawrence on Friday (Oct. 10) for a 7:30 p.m. start against the Jayhawks and in Manhattan on Saturday (Oct. 11) for a 7 p.m. start against the Wildcats.

The Red Raiders enter the contests coming off two 3-1 losses to No. 13 Texas and No. 14 Texas A&M this past weekend. Tech, 15-3 overall record (2-2 in the Big 12), jumped a spot in the all-important District 5 rankings this weekend even with the two losses. Eight of the district's 10 teams are from the Big 12 including No. 1 Nebraska.

Kansas (0-4, 7-10) enters the weekend riding a five-match losing streak. The Jayhawks, who have lost their 11 games, have shown potential including notching a game victory against Nebraska. So far, Kansas has lost to Big 12 opponents Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas State and Oklahoma. The Jayhawks are led by Amanda Reves (195 kills, 61 blocks), Kendra Kahler (166 kills), Mary Beth Albrecht (164 kills) and Laura Rhode (702 assists, 132 digs). Texas Tech all-time is 4-1 against Kansas while head coach Jeff Nelson is 2-0 vs. the Jayhawks.

Kansas State (1-3, 9-6) has a first-year head coach in Jim McLaughlin. McLaughlin's Wildcats enter the contest on a one-match losing streak after losing 3-0 to Oklahoma on Saturday. So far in the Big 12, Kansas State has defeated Kansas and lost to Nebraska and Colorado. Texas Tech is 2-2 all-time vs. Kansas State while head coach Jeff Nelson is 1-1 vs. the Wildcats.
