Texas Tech Volleyball to Host Kansas State, Kansas This Weekend
Red Raiders enter weekend with 18-5, 5-4 record
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team will host Big 12 Conference rivals Kansas State and Kansas this weekend at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. Tech host Kansas State on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and will play Kansas at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Kansas match on Saturday will broadcasted live on KKAM-radio, 1340-AM.
Tech (5-4 Big 12, 18-5 overall) defeated No. 20 Colorado 3-1 last Friday to win its first match against a nationally ranked opponent. The Red Raiders play seven of its final 10 matches at home.
Kansas State (6-4 Big 12, 15-7 overall) enters its contest with Tech after having won six of its last seven matches. Coached by first-year coach Jim McLaughlin, the Wildcats defeated Texas Tech 3-1 in Manhattan earlier this season. This past weekend, Kansas State handed No. 12 Texas A&M a crushing 3-0 (15-6, 15-2, 15-2) loss.
"Kansas State is playing great right now," Texas Tech head coach Jeff Nelson said. "We've really got to get up for that match Friday night. They beat Texas A&M this weekend 3-0 so it was pretty decisive."
Kansas (1-9 Big 12, 8-15 overall) is 1-9 over its last 10 matches. The Jayhawks are led by sophomore Amanda Reves (248 kills, 2.92 kills per game, 1.01 blocks per game), senior Kendra Kahler (199 kills, 2.62 kills per game) and junior setter Laura Rohde (10.55 assists per game).
In other Tech volleyball news, the Red Raiders' match at Texas has been moved to 3:00 p.m. to avoid a conflict with the Texas Tech-Texas football game which has been changed to 6:00 p.m. Also, Tech will make up its cancelled match with Nebraska on Tuesday, November 12. The Raiders will travel to Lincoln to play the Cornhuskers in a 7:00 p.m. match.
