Volleyball Not Selected for NCAA Tournament
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team was denied entry into the 1997 NCAA Division I volleyball tournament for the first time in three years Sunday. Texas Tech concludes its season at 23-11 overall and 10-10 in the Big 12.
The Red Raiders finished seventh in the Big 12 Conference and seventh in District 5. Head coach Jeff Nelson will not compete in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in his three-year tenure at Texas Tech.
Six teams from the Big 12 Conference were included in the NCAA's 56 schools including Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, Texas A&M, Kansas State and Oklahoma.
Texas Tech defeated five teams selected for the post-season play including Colorado (3-1), Texas A&M (3-1), South Florida (3-2), Tennessee-Chattanooga (3-0) and Hofstra (3-0). All 11 of the Red Raiders' losses came to teams selected for NCAA Tournament play.
