Jojit Coronel enters his fourth season on the Texas Tech bench and his second with the title of associate head coach after earning the promotion on March 27, 2013.

Well-known for his scouting adjustments prior to and during matches, Coronel (pronounced Joe-jit Core-nel) serves as Tech's primary scout for upcoming matches while also assisting in recruiting and the daily development of the program that has won 39 matches already during his tenure.

Coronel's impact has been felt on the court since arriving at Tech as part of Don Flora's inaugural staff in 2012. After inheriting a program that totaled just four victories in 2010, the Red Raiders have recorded 39 victories during Coronel's tenure, two shy of the school's amount from the previous six seasons.

The Red Raiders finished 15-17 overall in his first season, marking the program's most wins since 2001. Tech also boasted the third-largest win differential (+11) in the country from the 2010 to 2011 seasons as well.

Coronel, who is responsible for Tech's defensive adjustments during matches, helped tutor sophomore Rachel Brummitt into one of the top liberos nationally the past two seasons as she recorded 510 digs in 2012 en route to shattering the school's single-season record midway through Big 12 play.

Even after an impressive debut, Brummitt continued to rewrite the Tech record book in 2013, totaling a school-record 604 digs as a junior. She averaged 5.16 digs per set which ranked second in the Big 12 and among the top-25 liberos nationally.

Brummitt has been honored as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week three times in the past two seasons while also earning All-Big 12 honorable mention accolades as a junior. It marked only the second time a Red Raider had received a mention on the All-Big 12 teams since 2004.

Brummitt was also named to the AVCA All-Region teams following the season as well, becoming just the first Red Raider to do so since 2000. She closed the year earning honorable mention All-America honors by the AVCA.

Brummitt's development was just part of Tech's defensive growth as a whole as the Red Raiders are averaging an additional 1.5 digs per set since Coronel's arrival. The Red Raiders improved at the net as well, averaging 2.76 blocks per set in 2011 which ranked second in the Big 12 only behind Texas.

Coronel joined Flora at Tech after 11 seasons as the head coach at George Washington where he totaled a 176-153 record during his tenure, highlighted by six trips to the Atlantic-10 Championship and three 20-plus win seasons.

Coronel was elevated to GW's head coach in August 2000 and immediately found success in only his first season. The Colonials finished 25-6, winning the Atlantic-10 Championship to advance to the NCAA Championship, earning Coronel the A-10 Coach of the Year award as well as a selection as one of the regional coaches of the year by the AVCA. He had previously served a season as an assistant coach before earning the promotion.

Prior to joining George Washington, Coronel spent four seasons as the assistant coach for the men's volleyball program at the University of the Pacific, one of the top collegiate men's programs in the country.

Throughout his career, Coronel has been heavily involved with the USA national program, most recently leading the USA/Chesapeake Region High Performance teams. He has also served numerous stints as a volunteer coach and various internships, working with both the 2001 and 2003 USA men's national teams. He assisted and trained with the 2001 team that won the gold medal at the USA World University Games as well as the potential 2004 Athens Olympic team.

Coronel graduated in 1993 from the University of California-Santa Cruz, with a degree in political science. He was a standout member of UCSC's volleyball team as both a setter and defensive specialist, leading the squad to a 74-42 record over four years and Pacific Coast Volleyball Association titles in 1989 and 1991.

Following his graduation, he served as the head coach for the men's program from 1993-95. During that time, he was involved with several junior club programs, including Team Santa Cruz, Nike Pacific Volleyball Club and DC Juniors.

A Los Angeles native, Coronel and his wife, Kimberly, have two sons, Ethan and Drew.
