Soon after his hire in January, Flora announced Falls would be retained on his new staff after leading the Red Raiders for the final nine matches of the 2010 season as the program's interim head coach. Falls will go down in the Tech record book as the seventh head coach in school history as the Red Raiders showed signs of improvement towards the end of the season. Tech broke a four-year conference road losing streak when it defeated Colorado, 3-2, in Boulder and battled back-and-forth with the majority of the conference. The Red Raiders won eight sets under Falls, including two over nationally-ranked Iowa State and Texas, who advanced to the NCAA Final Four in 2010 as well. The most sets a Tech squad had previously won in conference was nine in 2007.
She had previously been an assistant coach under Trish Knight during the 2009-10 seasons after working under Nancy Todd from 2006-08. Falls entered the coaching profession after a successful playing career at SMU. An outside hitter for the Mustangs from 2001-04, Falls finished among the all-time SMU greats as she currently ranks third on the career kills and points lists and second for career attacks. She was named to the All-WAC team three timed and earned first team honors her senior season. Her senior year was particularly memorable as she averaged 4.62 kills per set, which is the third-highest figure in SMU single-season history. Falls ended the year ranked 40th in the nation in kills per set and was also named to the SMU Invitational and Fremont Investment and Loan Invitation all-tournament teams. Falls graduated from SMU in 2005 with a degree in business management and a minor in psychology. Following her college career, Falls played professionally played professional in France for Lyon Saint Fons Volley from August 2005 to May 2006. Prior to joining the Mustangs, Falls starred at Caldwell High School where she led the Hornets to two Texas state titles and picked up state tournament MVP honors her senior year. The University Interscholastic league honored Falls, who was then Beth Karasek, on its all-decade team last May. Falls' sister, Jane Anne Giese, is currently the head volleyball coach for Calwell High School. Falls and her husband Jeremy reside just outside of Lubbock in Ropesville. |
