Imelda Garcia is in her 12th year at Texas Tech as an assistant athletic trainer and third with the Red Raider volleyball program. She also works with both the men's and women's tennis programs.
During her tenure at Tech, Garcia has served as an advisor for the athletic trainer education program as well as the Student Athletic Trainer's Club at Tech that was founded by both Garcia and student athletic trainer Roderick Williams in 2001. She has also taught part-time in the exercise sports science department on campus.
Garcia, a native of Albuquerque, N.M., is a 1993 graduate of the University of New Mexico with a bachelor of science degree in athletic training. She received her master's of science degree in scientific basis of human performance from Texas Tech in 1997. While attending Tech, she worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with volleyball and men's and women's track and field.
Prior to returning to Tech, Garcia was an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Houston, where she worked with the volleyball, women's soccer, men's and women's track and field, and swimming and diving programs.
Garcia is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Southwest Athletic Trainers Association, College Athletic Trainers Society, National Strength & Conditioning Association and also has certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
