Beth Karasek enters her third year as assistant coach for the Red Raiders. Her addition to TTU's program has proven to be a great benefit.

Not long removed from her playing days, Karasek takes on a myriad of responsibilities on the Tech coaching staff. In addition to working with the outside hitters and on team ball control, she assists with game planning, scouting and recruiting.

Despite being at Tech just a short time, her impact has been felt already. The Red Raiders ball handling and hitting percentage has seen marked improvement. The team has also shown its ability to compete at a high level in perhaps the toughest conference in the nation, the Big 12. Karasek has also been instrumental in bringing in two talented recruiting classes in 2007 and 2008 for TTU.

Prior to her time at Texas Tech, Karasek was an outside hitter for SMU from 2001-2004. During her playing years, she was named to the All-WAC team three times with a first-team honor her final year. She was one of only two freshmen named to the team in 2001. As a senior, Karasek finished 40th in the NCAA in kills per game, averaging 4.62. She was named to the SMU Invitational and Fremont Investment and Loan Invitation teams in 2004.

Following her time at SMU, Karasek played professionally in France for Lyon Saint Fons Volley from August 2005 to May 2006.

Karasek has coached for Lubbock Volleyball Club for two years. She started as the head 12 and under coach in 2007 and moved on with the same team in 2008. She coached her 13 year olds to win Regional's in Albuquerque this year to get a bid to Nationals in Dallas, Texas. Previously, she coached in Dallas for the Texas Assault Volleyball Club (14s and 16). She also helped with coaching at various summer camps during her time as a student-athlete.

"My experience at Tech so far has been one of the best experiences of my life. I am learning more and more about volleyball each day and am excited every time I step into the gym. I enjoy working with Nancy (Todd) and Mike (Moffitt)," Karasek said. I have always loved volleyball and being a Red Raider makes volleyball even better! I am amazed each day with the talent in our gym and with the wonderful people I work with. I love living in Lubbock and being a part of this family."

The Caldwell, Texas, native graduated in 2005 from SMU with a BBA in business management and a minor in psychology. Currently she is engaged to Jeremy Falls of Ropesville, Texas. They will be married this coming winter.
