Texas Tech begins season Friday morning with an 11 a.m. CT first serve against Seattle

An outstanding athlete and three-year starter that will be looked upon for big things. Has the ability to put the ball away as an outside hitter, while not giving anything up defensively. Strong in the classroom as well as holding a 3.9+ grade point average, is a legitimate preseason Verizon Academic All-America candidate.

2001: Surpassed the 300 kill mark for the second-consecutive season...totaled 386 kills and 391 digs...is 10 digs short of reaching the 1000 mark in her career...had a season-high 29 kills against Baylor on Oct. 17...tallied 19 double-digit kill matches...20 double-digit dig matches...tallied a season-high 22 digs against Kansas in Lawrence on Oct. 6th...named to the first-team Academic All-Big 12 team...honorable mention All-Big 12.

2000: Named the Most Valuable Player at the South Carolina Classic...tallied a .270 hitting percentage...473 kills...3.91 kill per game average...58 assists...448 digs...set the Texas Tech sophomore record for number of kills in a single season...tallied 21 double-doubles (kills/digs) on the year...totaled 326 kills in Big 12 play...had a .258 hitting percentage in the Big 12...62 total blocks...named to the first-team All-Big 12

1999: Played at both the middle blocker and setter position...played in 86 games...tallied 83 kills...262 attempts...seven service aces...151 digs...11 blocks...had season high 14 kills against Colorado 11/13/99...racked up an impressive 38 attacks against Colorado 11/13/99...had two blocks against New Mexico, 9/18/99...won the team's Captain Award

HIGH SCHOOL: A 1999 graduate of Tivy High School in Kerrville where she played volleyball for head coach Danny Vernor and competed in basketball and track and field ? selected a 1999 Volleyball Magazine Fab-50 recruit ? three-time All State volleyball player ? selected to First Team All State honors as a senior and Honorable Mention All State as both a junior and sophomore ? three-time recipient of First Team All West Texas Regional honors ? earned two tournament MVP honors as a senior ? led team to district championship three years in a row ? hit .420 with 29 service aces, 507 kills and 237 digs as a senior ? four-time All District selection including honorable mention as a freshman ? led team to state 4A quarterfinals as a senior ? named to four all-tournament teams and two Most Valuable Player selections in her first three years of high school volleyball ? also played basketball and was selected for All District honors as a junior ? ended her career as the fourth all-time scorer in Tivy High School history ? advanced to regionals in track three years in three different events- 100-meter, 400-meter relay and 800-meter relay.

JUNIOR EXPERIENCES: Played for Kerrville Juniors for head coach Karin Strey ? has also played in San Antonio for club team, Alamo Express which advanced to UAA Nationals in July, 1999.

PERSONAL: Born Melissa Lynn McGehee on June 2, 1981 in Kerrville, Texas ? daughter of C.D. and Kathy McGehee ? mother Kathy, played volleyball at Texas A&M from 1974-75 ? has sister Mandy who attended Texas Tech and lives in Lubbock ? outstanding student with close to a 4.0 grade point average in high school ? honor roll student ? hobbies and interests include water sports (water skiing, swimming) and basketball and track and field ? sister Mandy attended Texas Tech ? member of FCA, Young Life in high school.
