Fifth Season


Mike Moffitt returns for his sixth season as an assistant coach for Texas Tech. Moffitt has been associated with the Red Raiders since he began as a student at Tech in 1998, and he has continued in some capacity ever since. He served as the student assistant coach under then head coach Jeff Nelson from 1998 until his graduation in 2002. In 2001, he was named a "distinguished friend of the program."

During his tenure as the student assistant coach he also led the Texas Tech men's volleyball club team as a player/coach from 1998-2002. During this span he was a three-time All-Conference selection as a setter.

In 2002, he took a position as director of volleyball for the All Saints Episcopal School in Lubbock. Despite leaving the Tech volleyball staff, he continued his association with the program through summer camps. Moffitt stayed with the All Saints Episcopal athletic program for one year before returning to Texas Tech full time.

Moffitt also has experience coaching on the club level, as he coached for the Texas Power club from 2000-2004. He continues his club involvement with the Lubbock Volleyball Club as a coach from 2005 to 2008. Last year he coached his LVC 17s team to a 9th place finish at both Crossroads and Lonestar, and finished 3rd in the Region. In 2006, he led the Sun Country Regional High Performance team to a second-place finish at the USA HP National Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Moffitt's coaching duties at Tech include being the recruiting coordinator and the setting coordinator, along with scouting opponents and running daily drills. During the summers, Moffitt serves as the Co-Camp Coordinator of the Texas Tech volleyball camps held each summer.

The Lubbock, Texas, native graduated cum laude from Texas Tech in 2002 with a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science. He also received an M.S. in Sports Management from Texas Tech in 2004. He is married to the former Erin Combs, a Lubbock native and former collegiate swimmer. The couple has three children, Jordan Elizabeth, born May 16, 2005, and twins Jackson Cooper and Jaelynn Mackenzie, born Dec. 22, 2006.
