Las Vegas - Texas Tech Volleyball dropped its season opener 3-1, 30-28, 26-30, 22-30 and 25-30, to Virginia at the UNLV Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev. Friday Night.

The Red Raiders hit .241 for the match and finished with eight blocks as a team. Individually, Alicia Ostmeyer led the way with 13 kills while hitting .556. She also finished with three blocks. Amy Gandy contributed 12 kills and four blocks, while Emily Ziegler finished with 39 assists and 11 digs for her first double-double of the season. Jenn Harrell and Brandi Hood added 15 digs and 11 kills, respectively, for Tech.

"It was a good game overall," TTU assistant Beth Karasek said. "The girls played hard and got their early jitters out of the way. We'll be ready for tomorrow."

The Red Raiders will be back on the court tomorrow with a pair of matches. First up will be host UNLV at 2 p.m. CT followed by a 6:30 p.m. match with Arizona State.
