Final Stats

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Led by Michelle Flores, the Texas Tech volleyball team upended Fordham 3-0 (30-26, 30-22 and 30-20) in its first game of the Big Orange Tournament in N.Y. Friday afternoon. With the win, Tech improved to 5-2 on the season.

Flores, a junior from San Juan, Puerto Rico, sparked the Red Raiders' attack with a match-high 14 kills on .500 hitting to lead the way. Senior Amy Gandy added nine kills and Emily Ziegler added seven to go along with her match-best 36 assists and nine digs. Flores and Gandy each had two aces.

"We had a slow start at the very beginning, but we really came on strong after," Tech coach Nancy Todd said. "We did a great job attacking and hitting. That is where we won it."

Early on it looked as if the Rams would pose a threat to the Tech attack, as TTU edged out a 30-26 win in game one. The Red Raiders came back with a vengeance to take game two 30-22 and cruise through game three to come away with the victory.

Tech will have the rest of Friday night off before facing Princeton at 9 a.m. CST to open a full slate of games Saturday. The Red Raiders will conclude the tournament with a 6 p.m. match with host Syracuse. Live stats will not be available for any of the remaining games.
