LUBBOCK, Texas - Once again, the Tech volleyball squad faltered in early games but came back to win the match as the Raiders beat the University of Texas-El Paso Miners in five games tonight in El Paso, Texas. The team battled for the first time this season to five games, 22-30, 21-30, 30-27, 30-27, 17-15.

Tech overcame their lowest game scores of the season in the first and second to come back in the third and hold the momentum until the end of the match. Head coach Nancy Todd was proud of the determination the team displayed today.

"It was very challenging. We were not focused at the beginning but we came back to win it and I am really proud of the girls for that."

Junior Kelly Johnson led the squad in kills with 26 and put up 12 digs on the Miners. Freshman Kiley Lyons was the only true freshman to play in all five games. She put up career high numbers with 15 kills, three aces and 18 digs.

The team put up a great defensive effort with five members logging double digit numbers in digs for a season high 91 digs. Junior Jessy Herrera led the team in digs with 22. Today's match marked the first double-double of the season for junior Laura Grote with 15 digs and 55 assists.

Tech (8-0) will play its final non-conference match tomorrow against New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M. at 8 p.m. CST.
