RUSTON, La. - Amanda Dowdy recorded 13 kills while Breeann David added 12 of her own to lead Texas Tech to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-13) sweep of Southeastern Louisiana Friday afternoon in the opener of the Louisiana Tech Invitational at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Tech's play early was opposite of its start earlier in the week against Texas-Pan American as the Red Raiders took the opening seven points to being the rout.
The Red Raiders did not trail at any point in the match, giving Tech its seventh-straight win, marking the program's longest run since winning eight-straight to start the 2003 season.
"This was one of our cleaner matches of the season," said head coach Don Flora, who spent his birthday roaming the Tech sideline. "We really took care of the pass, serve component of the game today which was something we had focused on this week. We're still continuing to learn our systems to play at an elite level but I liked the improvement."
The Red Raiders hit .429 over the opening frame before ending the match with a .263 hitting percentage. The Jaguars, meanwhile, were held to a -.023 average, marking the third time Tech has kept its opponent to a negative percentage this year.
Dowdy came close to the double-double with nine digs in addition to her match-high 13 kills. Tory Vaughan led all players with 12 digs as she finished with a team-high 3.0 passing percentage, while Karlyn Meyers added 32 assists to go along with seven digs and three kills.
Courtney Donald led the Jaguars with six kills while Elizabeth Famee added five as well.
Tech finished with a season-high nine aces, including seven in the final set, as four different players had at least two in the match.
The Red Raiders return to the court later this afternoon to battle Grambling State at 5 p.m. Tech defeated the Tigers, 3-0, earlier this season at the TCU Invitational.
