LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech volleyball stood toe-to-toe with No. 7 Texas for close to half the match before falling 3-1 (17-30, 30-26, 20-30 and 17-30) Wednesday night at the United Spirit Arena. The Red Raiders are just the third team this season to push the Longhorns to more than three games.

Tech is now 7-7 and 1-4 on the season, while Texas improved to 7-3 and 3-1 in conference play.

After struggling through the latter part of game one, the Red Raiders came alive and stood strong with the Longhorns for the next game and two thirds. Texas' hot hitting through the end of the third and into the fourth proved too much for Tech to overcome.

The `Horns took the advantage early in game one by taking a 7-4 lead early. The Red Raiders fought back with a couple of small runs, but Texas proved why it is among the nation's best and rolled on to the 17-30 win.

Tech woke up in a hurry in the second game and raced to the early 6-4 advantage. It never trailed from there and held a solid four-point lead through most of the game. The `Horns mounted a series of small runs, but the Red Raiders held strong to pull out the 30-26 win.

Coming out of the locker room, Texas came out swinging hard and looked to capture the momentum. Tech held strong, however, and jumped to an 11-9 lead. It battled the `Horns back and forth for the next few points, before Texas' hot-hitting offensive attack came alive to take control of the game and move on to the 20-30 win.

Game four was almost all `Horns. Despite a strong effort from the Red Raiders and a couple of small runs, Texas coasted through to the 17-30 win to claim the match.

Michelle Flores knocked down 10 kills to lead Tech and mark the 12 th match this year the San Juan, Puerto Rico, native has notched double-digit kills. Alicia Ostmeyer added eight kills to go along with four blocks, while Emily Ziegler chipped a nice stat line of 34 assists, eight digs, four assists and two blocks. Junior Brandi Hood knocked down seven kills on .600 hitting to go with three blocks and two digs.

Four Longhorns amassed double-digit kills, led by Sophomore Destinee Hooker's 21. Ashley Engle recorded 15 kills, while Michelle Moriarty had a match-best 54 assists and 12 digs for Texas.
