LUBBOCK, Texas - Amy Gandy and Brandi Hood enjoyed season-best nights, but it was not enough to lift Texas Tech past Iowa State in 3-0 (32-34, 15-30 and 24-30) loss Wednesday night in Ames, Iowa.

The Red Raiders fell to 7-14 and 1-11 on the year. The Cyclones, meanwhile, improved to 13-8 and 7-4 on the season.

Gandy paced Tech by tying a career-best 14 kills to go along with six digs and three blocks. Hood chipped in 11 kills and a match-high five blocks to go with a season-best .667 attack percentage. Sophomore Jenn Harrell picked up 14 digs, while setter Kourtney Dunnam had a career-high 35 assists. Freshman Becca Baldwin turned in three blocks off the bench.

After struggling with slow starts in its last match, Tech came out strong against the Cyclones and took a quick 2-0 lead. ISU responded with a run of its own to take an 8-5 lead and looked to take the momentum. The Red Raiders fought back, however, and evened the score at 16 apiece after a kill from Michelle Flores. Tech kept its fight up and eventually took a 26-23 lead on an Alicia Ostmeyer kill. The Red Raiders had game point at 29-28 before the Cyclones battled back to even the score. Tech stayed tough and staved off two game points to even the action at 32 all before ISU pushed forward with the last two points to take the 34-32 win.

The Cyclones kept their momentum going in the second game and raced out to a 6-0 lead early. They continued their hot hitting and eventually built an 11-3 advantage. Tech tried making a couple of runs, but it could not overcome ISU's hot hitting. The Cyclones rode their momentum to the 30-15 win.

Tech responded coming out of the locker room. After going down 4-0 early, the Red Raiders charged back with a 3-0 run to put themselves right back in the game. ISU kept a slim lead until an attack error pulled Tech even at 13. The Cyclones responded with a 5-0 run to take the momentum back. The Red Raiders kept fighting, but ISU would not allow them to get any closer than four and eventually took the 30-24 win.

Lauren Cummings led the Cyclones with a match-best 15 kills. Erin Boeve added 12 kills and four blocks, while Victoria Henson chipped in 11 kills.

Tech will return home for a showdown with in-state foe Baylor on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the United Spirit Arena.
