LUBBOCK, Texas - After a sloppy first set, Texas Tech settled in to play solid volleyball at the United Spirit Arena in the remaining two, but No. 8 Nebraska used every weapon in their considerable arsenal to beat the home team, 3-0, in front of 829 fans, many dressed in costume as a celebration called, "Safe Treats" took place.

The Huskers, one of the most dominant volleyball programs in the nation over the past 15 years, were led by Hannah Werth's 15 kills. (Yes, her brother is Phillies baseball player Jason Werth who started this evening in game 1 of the World Series.) Tara Mueller added 11 kills for Nebraska.

Tech, which started game 1 with some sluggish play, came back strong to make the second and third sets competitive. In one of Amanda Dowdy's finest performances of the 2009 season, the sophomore middle blocker led the Red Raiders attack with 14 kills and committed only two errors, to finish with a .462 hitting efficiency. Hayley Ball played well, particularly on the defensive side of the net, and led Tech with 11 digs.

After the match, the Red Raiders participated with other Texas Tech students to offer a safe trick or treating environment on the concourse for area youth who turned out to support the team while sporting a preview of their Halloween Costumes.

Tech will next travel to Waco to take on No. 22 Baylor for a Saturday evening match at 7 p.m. with the Bears.
