Tech Falls to Oklahoma
Nov. 14, 2009
Lubbock, Texas - Behind 16 kills from Suzy Boulavsky, Oklahoma (18-8, 11-6) used a variety of styles to beat Texas Tech (2-23, 0-16) in straight sets in volleyball action at the United Spirit in a match which began at 11:45 a.m. to accommodate the beginning of basketball season.
A sluggish start plagued the Red Raiders, as the Sooners had seven before Tech got on the board. Set two found Tech up 19-16 before Caitlin Higgins took the serve and prevailed on 10 consecutive points. Set three was back and forth until late when Oklahoma found a groove to come from behind. Set scores were: 25-15, 25-19, 25-21.
Amanda Dowdy led Tech's offense with 13 kills on the afternoon. Hayley Ball added five, Karlyn Meyers snuck in four and Miara Cave pounded three. Defensively, the Red Raiders got nine digs from the setter, Meyers, and six each from Aleah Hayes and Ball. Tech out-blocked the Sooners, 9-6, behind the long arms of Barbara Conceicao (1 solo, 4 assisted), Meyers (1 solo, 3 assisted), Dowdy (3 assisted) and Alexxa Roberts (3 assisted).
Sarah Freudenrich had a stellar afternoon adding 14 kills (one error) to the Sooners offense and wound up hitting for a .650 efficiency. Brianne Barker and Bridget Laplante were solid along the back row and picked up 12 and 11 digs, respectively.
Texas Tech next hosts Missouri on Wednesday night, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in a match that was adjusted for local television broadcast purposes.
