Nov. 17, 2012
TEXAS TECH TEAM NOTES The victory marks Texas Tech's first over a ranked opponent since topping Kansas State in 2004 as well as the Wildcats were ranked No. 20 when the Red Raiders took a 3-2 victory on Nov. 20 in Manhattan. The 2004 match was also Texas Tech's last win in the series as Kansas State had previously won the previous last 15 contests in the series. Texas Tech had not previously defeated a ranked opponent in less than five sets since topping No. 21 Missouri, 3-1, on Oct. 5, 2002. That was also the last time the Red Raiders defeated a top-25 team at the United Spirit Arena. Texas Tech's 14.5 blocks on the night marked its most during Big 12 play and its third-most so far this season. The win improved Texas Tech to 10-3 this season and 24-6 under head coach Don Flora when the Red Raiders win the opening set. Texas Tech is also now 9-0 this year and 12-1 under Flora when taking a 2-1 lead as well. Despite posting a lower hitting percentage, Texas Tech was able to score its first victory this year when doing so as the Red Raiders were 0-16 previously.
