LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team lost in five sets (19-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-14, 15-13) to Baylor despite receiving 20 kills from middle blocker Amanda Dowdy.

In the first set Tech jumped out to a 5-2 lead on two kills from Dowdy. The Red Raiders won the set behind a .382 hitting percentage.

The second set saw Baylor fight back. The set was back and forth with it still tied at 19 all on a kill by outside hitter Hayley Ball. The Bears finished on a run at the end behind an ace by Ashley Byrd and won the set 25-22.

The Red Raiders found themselves in an 8-4 hole to start the third set. The battled to a 9-9 tie on a kill from outside hitter Becca Baldwin. Tech put the pressure on the rest of the way having a lead of 20-15 before winning the set on a Dowdy kill.

Tech struggled in the second set hitting a -.031 percentage. Baylor hit .333 as a team jumped out to an 18-6 lead. The Red Raiders were unable to rally, losing the set 25-14.

The fifth set came down to the final two points. The Red Raiders fell into an early 4-1 hole before bouncing back on a kill by Dowdy to make the score 5-3. Baylor kept a two-point lead for most of the match until the end when a kill by setter Caroline Witte brought the score to 14-13 Baylor. The Bears kept the lead winning the final set 15-13.

Dowdy led all players with 20 kills. Witte finished the match with 51 assists and six kills. Ball (10), libero Jenn Harrell (10) and defensive specialist Jackie Vincent (11) all recorded double-digit digs.

 

 

Ashlie Christenson led Baylor with 13 kills. Allison King recorded 11 kills and 12 digs for the match.

Tech goes on the road for its next match against No. 3 Nebraska at 7 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
