LUBBOCK, Texas - In its last home match of the season, the Texas Tech volleyball team fell 3-0 (18-30, 19-30, 28-30) to the Texas Longhorns tonight at the United Spirit Arena. Texas's offense was near flawless as the team had no hitting errors until game three when the team tabbed eight errors, hitting.388 on the night.

Texas got the early 4-2 lead but a kill by senior Angela Mooney brought the score to a Longhorn 6-5. A kill by sophomore Breanna Pursley stopped Texas who was on a three-point run, bringing the score to 12-7. Texas edged its lead to 22-12 when Tech scored two straight points including a kill by freshman Christina Miller, who had two blocks on the night. Texas sealed the win going on a 4-1 run, closing the game at 30-18.
 

 

A kill by sophomore Jessica Watson kicked off game two but Texas took a 7-3 lead. Tech went on a 3-1 run bringing the score to 8-6. The teams went point for point until Texas took a 14-10 lead. A hard fought point sealed by a kill off freshman Kiley Lyons brought the score to 16-13. Off serving errors by both teams, the score was 22-15.The teams combined for 23 serving errors, with 11 off Texas and 12 off Tech. Texas closed out the game with three straight points, a 30-19 Longhorn win.

Texas took a 3-1 lead but a kill by junior Kelly Johnson tied up the game at 3-3. The teams went point for point again tying at seven. Texas broke free going on a 5-0 run until Tech cut the Longhorn lead to 15 all after an 8-1 run including four points by Pursley. Pursley was Tech's top hitter with 12 kills and four digs. Tech got is first lead of the match at 16-15, tying again at 19-19. Texas got a lead of 27-24 when a kill by Mooney cut a Longhorn lead to 27-25. In her final appearance in the United Spirit Arena, Mooney hit .222 with seven kills and two blocks, one assisted and one solo. The Red Raiders scored three straight points to tie again at 27. A Longhorn kill sealed the win at 30-28.

Tech will close out season play this Saturday at 7 p.m. as they take on the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kan.
