Red Raiders Fall to Texas A&M on the Road in Straight Sets
Nov. 26, 2008 LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team lost in straight sets on the road (25-18, 25-8, 25-18) to Texas A&M as middle blocker Amanda Dowdy led the Red Raiders with nine kills. The Red Raiders (5-25, 0-19) fell in a quick 12-5 hole to the Aggies (15-14, 10-9) but fought back to a two-point deficit on a kill by middle blocker Brandi Hood. Setter Caroline Witte kept it close on a kill that made the score 16-14, but A&M won the first set 25-18. Tech ran into a hot hitting Aggies squad in the second set as Texas A&M hit .571 percentage. Dowdy had two of her nine kills in the second set, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies won 25-8. The Aggies came out in the third set right where they left off with a .469 hitting percentage. Outside hitter Michelle Flores kept the set close with a kill that made the score 10-7, but Tech couldn't maintain the momenteum falling 25-18. Outside hitter Hayley Ball finished the match with six kills and setters Caroline Witte and Karlyn Meyers both had double-digit sets with 13 and 11 respectively. Sarah Ammerman led the Aggies with 16 kills. Texas Tech will play its season finale on Saturday at 7 p.m. against No. 13 Kansas State at the United Spirit Arena. The three Red Raider seniors will be honored and fans receive free admission into the match.
