Texas Tech Downs Baylor in Four Games
WACO, Texas - Courtney Putnam had a team-high 21 kills to lead the Texas Tech women's volleyball team past Baylor in four games in a match played Wednesday night on the campus of Baylor University. Game scores were 15-12, 15-13, 5-15, and 15-10.
After Texas Tech had claimed hard-fought victories in the first two games of the match, the host Bears responded with a spectacular third game, hitting a scorching .457 as a team to post an easy 15-5 victory. The Red Raiders regrouped in the fourth game, however, and notched a 15-10 victory to win the match.
In addition to Putnam's 21-kill performance, Brande Brown posted 18 kills to aid the Texas Tech attack. Lisa Hilgers led the way defensively for the Red Raiders, collecting 18 digs to go along with 49 assists from her setter position. Elisha Polk spearheaded the Baylor attack with a match-high 24 kills.
Texas Tech improves to 17-4 on the year and 4-3 in the Big 12 Conference. Baylor drops to 13-8 overall, 3-4 in the conference.
Texas Tech returns to action on Saturday night, hosting the Oklahoma Sooners at 7 p.m.
