No. 22 Colorado Hands Texas Tech Second Loss in Row
Red Raiders Are Swept for Third Time This Season
LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 22 Colorado handed the Texas Tech volleyball team a 15-12, 15-3, 15-7 loss Saturday night at Lubbock's Municipal Coliseum. Texas Tech drops to 9-9 in Big 12 play and 22-10 overall while Colorado improves to 15-3 in Big 12 play and 19-7 overall.
Texas Tech, playing without sophomore outside hitter Courtney Putnam who was injured with a knee injury, was led by Brande Brown who finished with 11 kills and 13 digs. Junior setter Lisa Hilgers contributed 32 assists and 12 digs, senior outside hitter Cristine Martin finished with 11 digs, freshman outside hitter Pam Osterfeld added a career-high 10 digs and junior middle blocker Sonia Moric banged home eight kills along with four blocks.
Colorado placed four players in double digit kills. Alison Koepke led the way with a triple-double (10 kills, 14 digs and 10 blocks), Courtney Owens finished with 10 kills and 12 digs, Melissa Schutz had 11 kills and hit .500 and Sarah Lodge finished with 10 kills.
The defeat was Tech's third 3-0 loss of the season. Although Tech outdug Colorado 76-58, the Buffaloes outhit the Raiders .246 (48-14-138) to .099 (44-29-152). Colorado also notched 13 blocks to Tech's five.
Texas Tech is next in action at home against Baylor Wednesday evening at Lubbock's Municipal Coliseum. The match begins at 7:00 p.m.
