Texas Tech volleyball defeats Baylor 3-0
Hilgers breaks Tech season digs record

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team earned its 23rd win of the season with a 15-2, 15-5, 15-13 victory Wednesday against Baylor at Lubbock's Municipal Coliseum. Texas Tech improves to 10-9 in Big 12 play and 23-10 overall while Baylor falls to 5-14 in Big 12 play and 15-18 overall.
Texas Tech has one more regular season match, a Friday matchup against Oklahoma at 7p.m. in Norman, Okla. Tech will need a victory to help its chances of earning an NCAA Tournament bid.
Tech setter Lisa Hilgers broke the Texas Tech record for season digs as the junior surpassed the previous school digs record for a season of 421 by Sheila Solomon in 1989. Hilgers finished with 12 digs on the evening and now has 423 for the season. Hilgers also contributed 26 assists on the evening.
Senior middle blocker Brande Brown, in her final home match at Texas Tech, finished with a match-high nine kills in 17 attempts for a .412 percentage. She also added five blocks. Senior Cristine Martin, also in her final match at Tech, contributed seven digs and four kills. Junior outside hitter Kristen Holmes added 11 digs.
The match also marked the return of sophomore outside hitter Courtney Putnam to the Red Raiders. Putnam, who had been sidelined with a knee injury for the previous five matches, returned against Baylor to register two kills in nine attempts along with two blocks over two games.
Texas Tech will travel to Oklahoma on Friday for the squad's final match of the season. The NCAA Tournament will be announced Sunday at 5:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Net. The show will feature the same format as the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament selection show.
