Texas Tech Volleyball Drops Final Regular Season Contest at Oklahoma
NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma handed Texas Tech a 15-11, 15-7, 19-17 loss Friday evening in Norman, Okla. The match signalled the end of the regular season for Texas Tech who finishes at 10-10 in Big 12 play and 23-11 overall. Oklahoma improved to 12-7 in the Big 12 and 18-12 overall.
Tech senior middle blocker Brande Brown broke the school's single season kills record with her 18-kill performance against the Sooners. Brown broke 1996 senior Jill Burness' record of 427 with her performance. She needed only 15 kills to break the record but got 18 to finish off the regular season with 431 season kills.
"Brande had another huge game," Texas Tech head coach Jeff Nelson said. "She's come through all year and really deserves some post-season honors."
Oklahoma hit an incredible .329 (79-24-167) in the match as Melissa Peterson and Patrice Arrington finished with 29 and 28 kills respectively. The host Sooners also outblocked Texas Tech 14-5.
Texas Tech hit only .221 (62-28-154) on the match. The Red Raiders were led by Brown's .371 (18-5-35) hitting percentage, 13 digs and four blocks. Junior setter Lisa Hilgers finished with .417 hitting (5-0-12), 51 assists and a match-high 19 digs, senior outside hitter Cristine Martin ended the match with 15 kills and 15 digs, sophomore outside hitter Courtney Putnam nailed home 10 kills and a .318 hitting percentage and junior Kristen Holmes finished with 10 digs.
Texas Tech finished 0-2 vs. Oklahoma on the season.
