Texas Tech Claims USF Volleyball Classic
TAMPA, Fla. - Texas Tech posted a perfect 3-0 record at the two-day USF Volleyball Classic to claim the championship. South Florida, who dropped its opening match 3-2 to Texas Tech, won two matches today to finish second.
Lori's Gribben's 14 kills paced South Florida in the first match today, as the Bulls defeated Georgia Southern 15-2, 15-0, 15-3. Gribben's 14 kills and .824 hitting percentage were both match and career highs. South Florida posted a .565 hitting percentage as a team to set a new school record, shattering the old mark of .517 set against Jackson State on Sept. 23, 1995.
Paula Araujo and Katiane Simonetti banged 13 kills apiece for South Florida (6-2) to lead the Bulls past Tennessee Chattanooga (2-6), 15-7, 15-3, 15-7. Chattanooga's Rachel Evans led the Mocs with a team and match high 19 kills.
In the final match of the tournament, Texas Tech (7-0) set a school record with a .492 hitting percentage and defeated Georgia Southern (1-6) 15-1, 15-2, 15-4.
