Jan. 16, 2013
Allen, a native of Lewisville, Texas, spent the 2012 season at South Carolina where she totaled 122 kills over 84 sets while also adding 102 digs and 27 blocks from the outside. She will have three years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2013 season next fall.
"Our staff is fired up with the mid-year addition of Jenna Allen," Flora said. "She is coming to Texas Tech with a set of volleyball skills, athleticism, and focus that will raise the bar in what we do in the gym every day. Having her join this very talented freshman class allows for this team to compete every day in practice at a high level. Her passion for volleyball and competitive edge will help this program make the needed progress this spring and into the 2013 season."
Prior to enrolling at South Carolina, Allen was a four-year letterwinner at Hebron High School in the Dallas area where she played alongside current Red Raider Nicole Hragyil. With Allen leading the attack on the outside, Hebron claimed the Texas 5A State Championship her junior year before advancing to the regional quarterfinals her senior season.
Allen led the Hawks as a senior with a team-high 5.2 kills per set average. She also ranked among the team's top four players in aces, blocks and digs as well en route to earning all-state honors by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Flora now heads into the spring exhibition season with a 16-player roster as the Red Raiders will compete in several tournaments throughout the semester. The entire spring schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
