LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech rising seniors Rachel Brummitt and Breeann David will compete against the top professional and amateur athletes in the country this weekend as the duo takes part in the U.S. Women's National Team Tryouts held in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The tryouts, which will attract a record 248 athletes from 106 colleges across the country, begin Friday morning and run until Sunday in Sports Center II at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

Brummitt and David will be evaluated for both the U.S. Women's National Team as well as the U.S. Collegiate National Teams since the two still have one year of eligibility remaining.

USA Volleyball will select two different U.S. Collegiate National Teams with one traveling to China on June 13-27 for two weeks of training and matches. The other will train and then participate in the 2014 USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships held in Minneapolis, Minn. on June 26-30.

Brummitt, Tech's single-season digs record holder, will compete against 62 other liberos, the largest position group at the tryouts, for a spot on one of the national teams. The Plano, Texas native recorded 604 digs this past season, averaging 5.16 per set which ranked 26th nationally and second in the Big 12 Conference.

David, meanwhile, will be going against 60 other outside hitters for a spot on either of the two teams after recording 282 kills at a team-best 3.40 per set rate in 2013. David, a native of Denver City, Texas, also totaled 151 digs from the back row to go along with 50 blocks at the net, 13 of which that came via solo blocks.

The two seniors were also Tech's top servers with Brummitt recording a team-leading 32 aces and David following with 23 of her own. David ended the year averaging a team-leading 0.28 aces per set.

Tryouts for the U.S. National Team are open to current college-age athletes and older born players in the years 1986-1996 as well as high school athletes born in 1996 or earlier.

USA Volleyball will stream every session of the tryouts on its official website.
