LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball program opened spring practice Thursday morning with the first of several team sessions held at the United Spirit Arena.
"This is a really important phase in our development as a team, so I was excited to see the joy in our players' eyes today," Tech head coach Don Flora said. "It's rewarding for them to see the development in the systems that we are implementing. This group really focused hard today and seems to be picking up our systems well."
In addition to two months of spring practices, the Red Raiders will compete at four different events throughout the spring, beginning March 24 with a home tournament at the United Spirit Arena.
From there, the Red Raiders will take trips to New Mexico (March 31) and Dallas (April 21) for two separate tournaments against several of the country's top programs. Tech will also head to Ruidoso, N.M. on April 14 to battle UTEP.
After finishing 15-17 in his first season, Flora returns 14 players from his 2011 squad, including incoming seniors Tory Vaughan and Miara Cave. The program will add at least four newcomers in the fall as Flora signed four high school recruits last November during the fall period.
During the offseason, Flora added two newcomers already to his roster in Long Beach State transfer Tori Jobe (Amarillo, Texas) and Radford University transfer Rachel Brummitt (Plano, Texas) with both participating in their first practice on Thursday.
