LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech rising senior Breeann David was selected Monday to the U.S. Collegiate National Team that will represent USA Volleyball on its European Tour this summer.

David, a native of nearby Denver City, Texas, is one of 12 players selected to compete in the European Tour that will run July 8-19 with visits to Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.

"It is an honor and privilege to play for the U.S. National Team," David said. "I'm excited for the opportunity and would like to thank Coach (Don) Flora and the coaching staff for the recommendation and Texas Tech for its support. It was a great experience being at the Olympic Training Center, and I'm looking forward to playing in Europe."

David previously traveled to the U.S. Olympic Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. for Team USA tryouts in February. She was one of 248 athletes to compete in the tryouts that were for both the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Team.

David was one of three outside hitters to make the roster, joining Kelly Lamberti from Ohio University and Gabby Mallette of Florida. Mallette is one of three Florida athletes selected to the 12-player roster.

Team USA will begin its trip in Venice, Italy, before traveling to Maribor, Slovenia, for a four-day training camp. The squad will train and have friendly scrimmages with Slovenia's national team and Under-20 national team along with other countries' U-20 teams.

The U.S. will then head to Pula, Croatia, to compete in the Global Challenge on July 13-18.The trip is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women's National Team.

The team will be led by UCLA head coach Mike Sealy, who will be assisted by Northern Colorado associate head coach Jenny Glenn and Long Island head coach Kyle Robinson.

David, the only Big 12 player on the European Tour roster, totaled 282 kills as a junior, averaging a team-best 3.40 kills per set while adding 151 digs and 50 blocks defensively. She also posted 23 aces from behind the service line.

She enters her 2014 senior season needing 205 kills to reach the top 10 in the Tech career record book and 243 to become just the ninth player to reach 1,000 kills over a career.
