LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball program will open its spring slate Friday evening when the Red Raiders host Wayland Baptist in a 5:30 p.m. first serve at the United Spirit Arena.
The Red Raiders head into their spring season with 13 letterwinners returning from the 2013 season, including most of their starting lineup in libero Rachel Brummitt, outside hitters Breeann David, Jenna Allen and Meghan Stacy, setter Emily Ruetter along with middle blocker Mikia Mills.
Wayland Baptist, meanwhile, is also opening its spring schedule after a compiling a 36-7 record a year ago where the Pioneers ended the 2013 season ranked fourth nationally after advancing to the NAIA Final Four.
The match coincides with a free kids clinic that will begin at 4 p.m. and a pre-match tailgate that will be held on the United Spirit Arena concourse in Club Red beginning at 4:30 p.m.
This will be the first in four competition dates for the Red Raiders, who will also host a home tournament on April 12. Tech will also face New Mexico State in Ruidoso, N.M. on April 5 before closing the spring April 19 at the Lone Star College Showcase.
