LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team opened its spring slate with a 3-1 victory (25-17, 20-25, 25-12, 25-23) Friday night over Wayland Baptist at the United Spirit Arena.

Jenna Allen led the Red Raiders with a match-high 21 kills in the first of four competition dates for Tech this spring. Allen also recorded a team-high .401 hitting percentage as well.

She was assisted on the attack by Courtney Ensch and her 11 kills from the right side along with five kills from Brianna Grant and four each from both Breeann David and Lauren Douglass.

It was the first ever appearance for Douglass in a Red Raider uniform after she sat out the 2013 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Her four kills came on only nine attempts from the middle.

Tech head coach Don Flora was able to use every Red Raider in uniform in the match as all three setters - Marguerite Grubb, Nicole Hragyil and Emily Ruetter - saw time directing the offense.

Wayland Baptist was also opening its spring schedule coming off a record-setting year from 2013 where the Pioneers finished 36-7 overall and ranked fourth nationally after advancing to the NAIA Final Four.

The Red Raiders will be back in action on April 5 as Tech will travel to Ruidoso, N.M. to face New Mexico State in an all-day event.
