LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team earned a pair of victories in exhibition matches Thursday as the Red Raiders defeated both Midland College and Lubbock Christian at the United Spirit Arena.
The Red Raiders won both matches by a 4-0 score as the two teams played to 25 during the first three sets and then 15 points in the fourth frame.
"This was a solid performance by our team today, and I was encouraged by the growth showed by the entire team," Tech head coach Don Flora said. "We had strong performances in all aspects - attacking, setting and digging - and played in front of a great crowd. This team still has plenty of room to grow and we're looking forward to see them develop more this spring."
Jenna Allen led the Red Raiders in both matches as she combined for 26 total kills in her first time playing on the United Spirit Arena court. The sophomore transfer hit .424 in the morning match against Midland College and then nearly came back with a near double-double against LCU with 10 kills and nine digs.
Breeann David also had 14 combined kills in only four sets for the Red Raiders, while Mikia Mills and Aubree Piper connected on 18 and 12 kills each in the middle. Mills led all players against LCU with 12 total kills.
Defensively, Rachel Brummitt finished in double digits for digs in both matches as she totaled a match-high 29 in the nightcap against LCU.
The Red Raiders continue their spring slate April 6 with an all-day tournament at UT Arlington. Tech will also take part in the Lonestar College Showcase on April 20 at the Dallas Convention Center.
