LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team continued its successful spring by picking up two victories Saturday while splitting two other matches during its annual home tournament at the United Spirit Arena.
The Red Raiders opened the day by topping New Mexico Military Institute and Lubbock Christian before splitting a pair of two-set matches with Wayland Bapist and West Texas A&M to close the day.
The successful day improved Tech to 4-0-2 this spring heading into next weekend's final competition date at the Lone Star College Showcase.
"The day in total was another step forward in the collective development of this team," Tech head coach Don Flora said. "There was a lot more quality volleyball than anything else. We had some real important contributions from everyone. It is good to see everyone play and show they are growing in their roles."
Breeann David and Brianna Grant led the Red Raider attack, totaling 22 and 21 kills each whle Lauren Douglass added 19 from the middle as well. Katie Daffer, seeing her most action of the spring, chipped in a .400 hitting percentage from the right side.
Brummitt was Tech's most frequent player behind the service line as the Red Raiders had their best serving day of the spring. Brummitt posted the most serves with 44 while Emily Ruetter and Foust added 32 as well.
The Red Raiders will take part in the Lone Star Showcase next Saturday, facing several of the top volleyball programs throughout the state of Texas in what will be the final set of exhibition matches for Tech this spring.
