LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball program closed its spring slate with a 2-1 showing Saturday at the Lone Star College Showcase held at the Dallas Convention Center.

The Red Raiders followed a close three-set loss to Angelo State to start the morning with back-to-back two-set victories over Oklahoma Baptist and Big 12 rival TCU. The performance helped Tech close the spring with a 7-4 overall record.

"Today was a great stamp of what we've accomplished this spring and a springboard for next fall," Tech associate head coach Jojit Coronel said. "Our team improved throughout the morning session which culminated with a relentless display of each individual executing our system of volleyball at the highest level against TCU."

Breeann David led the Red Raiders with 24 kills on the day, while Aubree Piper and Mikia Mills added 16 each in the middle. Meghan Stacy also recorded nine kills on the outside as well.

Piper was accurate from the field as she hit a team-high .419 overall followed by David's .357 average. Defensively, Tech was led by 39 digs from Rachel Brummitt along with 27 from Nicole Hragyil.

"Our confidence and ability to create and take advantage of point scoring opportunities allowed our middles to successfully hit over .300 for the day," Coronel added. "We identified areas prior to spring that we needed to get better in. We did just that and I hope the team enjoys the fruits of their labor."

The Red Raiders will continue with individual workouts for the remainder of the spring before returning to campus in August for the start of preseason workouts. Tech's 2013 schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
