LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team put the final touches on its spring slate Saturday with a 2-1 showing at the Lone Star College Showcase held at the Dallas Convention Center.
The Red Raiders wrapped the all-day event with two-set victories over Dallas Baptist (25-12, 25-15) and Rice (25-23, 25-20) before falling to North Texas (25-16, 25-16) in straight sets. The two victories improved Tech to 6-1-2 overall this spring.
"It was a good finish to the spring for this team," Tech head coach Don Flora said. "We improved in several areas and found other areas of development heading into this fall. I thought we played solid, good volleyball for most of the day and that's something as a staff we hoped to see in our final day of competition this spring."
The Red Raiders hit an impressive .324 against Dallas Baptist in the opener while holding the Patriots to just a .065 clip. Breeann David led Tech with seven kills in the match while Mikia Mills added six kills and a team-high .857 hitting percentage.
Lauren Douglass posted her best performance of the day against Rice, drilling eight kills to go along with a .571 hitting percentage against an Owls club that has already topped three Big 12 programs this spring in Texas, Baylor and Oklahoma.
Tech will open its 2014 season on Aug. 29 at a two-day tournament hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The full 2014 schedule will be released in the upcoming weeks.
