LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior Rachel Brummitt concluded her stay with the U.S. Collegiate National Team Tuesday as the Red Raider libero spent over a week training and competing in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Brummitt, one of two Red Raiders selected this summer on one of USA Volleyball's Collegiate National Teams, trained for four days at the University of Minnesota before the squad was split into teams for a round-robin event that was hosted in conjunction with the Girls' Junior National Championships being held in Minneapolis as well.
"I loved the experience and learned so much throughout training," said Brummitt, a Plano, Texas native. "I look forward to sharing all that I've learned with my teammates and coaching staff to help prepare us for this upcoming season. This was a great experience that I'll always remember."
Brummitt's squad finished second in the round-robin format hosted at the Minneapolis Convention Center, which for the past week has been the center of the volleyball world as thousands of fans, coaches and youth players have traveled from around the country to attend the event.
Brummitt spent the majority of her stay at her normal libero position, a spot she has excelled at in her two-year career with the Red Raiders. She was also used as a defensive specialist early in the training portions.
The experience will hopefully impact what could potentially be another record-setting season this fall for Brummitt, who enters her senior campaign needing 469 digs to snap Lisa Hilgers' career record. It took Brummitt only two seasons to compile 1,114 digs after transferring to Tech following her freshman season at Radford University.
Fellow Red Raider teammate Breeann David will travel next week with another of USA Volleyball's Collegiate National Teams on its European Tour. David is scheduled to visit Italy, Slovenia and Croatia as part of the July 8-19 trip.
