LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech volleyball coach Don Flora announced the program's 2013 roster Friday which features 12 returning letterwinners to go along with seven newcomers that will take the court beginning in August.
"This may be the deepest and most talented group we've had in my three seasons," Flora said. "With this incoming class of newcomers, we now have depth at every position which is crucial to be a quality program. This class of newcomers answers all of our needs position wise and they raise the level of play for us day in and day out in the gym."
Flora's 19 player roster will feature just one senior Aubree Piper, who is one of four starters returning, joining junior libero Rachel Brummitt, junior outside hitter Breeann David and sophomore setter Emily Ruetter.
The Red Raiders also return experienced letterwinners in juniors Mikia Mills, Sam Podraza, and Nicole Hragyil along with sophomores Meghan Stacy, Brianna Grant, Emily Wright, Ellen Sorrells and Whitney Ford.
The group will join seven newcomers, highlighted by sophomore transfer Jenna Allen as well as freshmen Victoria Hinneburg and Marguerite Grubb. Tech also added two additional transfers in sophomore Carlie Foust and redshirt freshman Lauren Douglass to go along with true freshmen Courtney Ensch and Katie Daffer.
"This will be a good mix of returning players and newcomers," Flora added. "We're counting on several of these freshmen and transfers to come in and compete right away in order to make us a better team. We're obviously excited for the season to get here in a little over a month."
The Red Raiders open training camp on Aug. 9 in preparation for their Aug. 30 season opener at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Weber State.
