Tour de Europe: Dowdy Arrives Overseas
July 14, 2011
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior-to-be Amanda Dowdy landed in Venice, Italy, Sunday evening in preparation for next week's European Global Challenge. Since then, she has traveled to Slovenia and Serbia, experiencing the sights and sounds of Europe all the while practicing with her USA/BIP team.
Dowdy will remain in Serbia through Saturday as the squad will practice with the Great Britain National Team before heading to the tournament location in Pula, Croatia for Monday's opening ceremonies.
The European Global Challenge pits six teams from Europe against six squads from the U.S. in a round robin format over the first two days with the top eight teams advancing to a double-elimination format.
As part of her trip, Dowdy will keep Texas Tech fans updated on her adventures overseas, beginning with this first post:
"This trip has really been amazing so far. We've had a couple days of practices and done some sightseeing as well. Slovenia is absolutely beautiful and I wish we could have stayed longer, but we took a five-hour bus ride yesterday to Serbia where we are currently practicing before heading to Croatia sometime Sunday. There is no air conditioning in our rooms here and it's around 100 degrees outside, so it's been a pretty hot couple of days. I can't begin to describe how amazing this trip has been so far, and I'm really looking forward to getting on the court next week."
